The Ph.D. Industry-Academia Research Group (Group B) at the Department of Business Administration, National Chung Cheng University, has been recruiting since 2014. It is the earliest Ph.D. program in Taiwan designed with a practice-oriented curriculum. Based on the mission of "nurturing industry thought leaders, building corporate management capabilities, stimulating practical management wisdom, and contributing to the business knowledge community," we specially invite decision-makers with over 15 years of industry experience to study together. Admission Information

In addition to being currently employed, applicants must have a cumulative service record of 15 years or more. Admission is based on a combined score from the document review and oral exam.

Industry-Academia Research Group (Group B) Admission Information

  • Eligibility: Applicants must hold a Master's degree and meet the criteria set out in Article 8 of the "Standards for Recognition of Equivalent Educational Level for University Admission". Applicants must submit a work equivalent to a Master's thesis. (Eligibility is confirmed only after the submitted review materials are approved by the department during registration.)
  • Admission Quota: 5 students (Academic Year 114).
  • Experience Requirement: A cumulative service record of 15 years or more (including years in past positions and current position).
  • Selection Process: Document Review (50%) and Oral Exam (50%). A certain number of top-scoring candidates from the first stage (review) will be notified to attend the second stage (oral exam).
  • Required Documents:
    1. One copy of a Research Proposal based on personal work experience.
    2. One copy of a Research Paper (including Master's thesis). (Current graduates may submit a draft of their Master's thesis signed by their advisor; candidates with foreign degrees who lack a research paper or Master's thesis may attach relevant term papers.)
    3. One original copy of the Master's program transcript for all academic years.
    4. One copy describing personal past work experience and achievements.

Elective Courses Group A: Guided by the "Major Field Letter of Intent" filled out during the exam, students primarily select courses offered by or approved by the designated faculty of their field (interdisciplinary electives require discussion in a departmental meeting). A total of 19 elective credits is required.
Group B: Students must take courses offered or approved by their thesis advisor, requiring a minimum of 9 elective credits.

Coursework: Complete 16 Required Credits, 3 Required Elective Credits, and 9 Elective Credits.

Stage 1 Research Output Review: Take the "Knowledge Development Seminar" and complete a "Book Writing Proposal" (equivalent to a journal publication proposal).

Stage 2 Research Output Review (Qualifying Exam): Students can choose one of two ways to waive the qualifying exam:
1. Pass exams in two disciplines.
2. Publish papers in TSSCI, THCI Level 2 or above, SCOPUS journals, or conference papers (publications can focus on industry case studies).

Stage 3 Research Output Review: Dissertation Proposal Oral Defense.
*Must complete academic research ethics education courses (via the Taiwan Academic Research Ethics Education Resource Center).

Stage 4 Research Output Review:
1. Students must undergo a review of their completed book manuscript before the Ph.D. dissertation oral defense. Once it passes the review process and is submitted to the departmental meeting for approval, they may proceed to the Ph.D. dissertation oral defense.
2. After passing the book manuscript review, it must be published by a publisher after the dissertation oral defense according to the regulations.

Stage 5 Research Output Review: Submit the publication contract and a copy of the finalized book draft to apply for the Ph.D. Dissertation Oral Defense.
*Must undergo a dissertation plagiarism check (similarity index standard must be below 15%).

Student English Graduation Threshold

【Group A】 Graduation English Proficiency Requirements: (Students may only apply for the degree examination after obtaining proof of foreign language proficiency.) Students must pass ANY of the following tests and hold a valid certificate to graduate:

  • (1) TOEIC: 750 or above
  • (2) TOEFL ITP: 527 or above / TOEFL-CBT: 197 or above / TOEFL-iBT: 71 or above
  • (3) GEPT: High-Intermediate level (Second Stage) or above
  • (4) IELTS: 5.5 or above
  • (5) FLPT: Total score of 240 or above in the three written tests
  • (6) BULATS: ALTE Level 3 or above
  • (7) Cambridge Main Suite: First Certificate in English (FCE) or above
  • (8) CSEPT: Level 2: 330 or above
  • (9) TOEIC score of 600 or above, AND attend a department-approved international conference and present a paper in English twice.
  • (10) During the Ph.D. study period, take at least two English-taught professional courses at an overseas university or graduate school in an English-speaking country recognized by the Ministry of Education.
  • (11) Complete 4 Master's/Ph.D. English courses (8 credits) offered by the department, passing with a score of 70 or above. (Language courses are not counted towards graduation credits).
  • (12) Hold a Bachelor's degree (or above) from an English-speaking country, apply with relevant proof documents, and be deemed to have passed upon review approval.

【Group B】 Students' English condition requirements for graduation must meet ONE of the following criteria:

  • Meet the graduation English proficiency requirements for Group A students.
  • Take one of the tests listed in items (1) to (8) of the Group A English proficiency requirements, AND complete 2 English courses (4 credits) offered by the EMBA program, passing with a score of 70 or above. (Language courses are not counted towards graduation credits).
